1) SRO Housing Program for Formerly Homeless Alcoholics
HAC operates Single Room Occupancy (SRO) housing. This housing is for chronic alcoholics who had previously lived on the streets for years and who are unable to maintain sobriety. HAC does not require sobriety from tenants or participation in treatment so many tenants continue to drink on a sporadic or daily basis. No drinking is allowed in the house or in the neighborhood. This housing has helped many individuals reduce the amount of time they spend drinking. Tenants are able to make changes in their lives such as improving their physical or mental health, such as reuniting with family they had lost contact with.
Program Assistant/Residential Staff: Part-time positions available; shifts are 8am-4pm, 4pm-12am and 12am-8am. Staff are responsible for monitoring tenants, crisis intervention, thorough cleaning of the building and light cooking. Individuals must also be able to help vulnerable tenant with personal care, be able to multitask, have good time management skills as well as the ability to work with intoxicated individuals. HAC is looking for staff with a positive attitude and the skills to be a team player. Extra hours are always available so HAC is looking for individuals who are flexible and want to work. May involve some on-call, which means you may have to work additional shifts on those days for an additional stipend. Days (8A-4P) pay $11/hr; Eves (4P-12A) pay $12.50/hr; overnight (12A-8A) pay $12/hr.
** Candidates for all positions must be able to work with intoxicated individuals and be non-judgmental and accepting of their choices. Also, must be able to diffuse conflict in a non-violent manner.

2) HAC Outreach Van
The Homeless Action Committee operates an Outreach Van program which makes rounds on the streets of Albany to places where homeless people congregate. Outreach Van staff assist individuals with basic needs as well as transportation to area resources. Other human service agencies, and the police often call the Outreach Van to provide transportation to shelters or motels for the night.
Outreach Van Supervisor: Full-time
HAC is in need of a full-time supervisor for this program who also does the outreach and driving between 2-10PM Monday-Friday. During the winter, on Code Blue nights, the hours are until 12AM. Must also be willing to work alone when there are no volunteers. S/he will provide outreach services to homeless individuals in the City of Albany. S/he will supervise the entire program including interviewing, hiring, training new staff & volunteers; overseeing and completing paperwork as well as grant reports, etc.
Full health and dental insurance is paid for in full by HAC. Compensation: $13-$14.5/hr depending upon experience.
Outreach Drivers for the Homeless (Full-time or Part-time)
HAC is in immediate need of Outreach Drivers for this program. The hours are between 2-10PM Monday-Friday. During the winter, on Code Blue nights, the hours are until 12AM. Must also be willing to work alone when there are no volunteers. S/he will provide outreach services to homeless individuals in the City of Albany. This position can lead to advancement, given the right qualities. Compensation: $12/hr.
Candidates for Outreach Van must be able to work with individuals with active alcohol/substance abuse issues, have good judgment, be responsible, reliable and have a good knowledge of crisis intervention techniques.
Human Services experience preferred and must have excellent writing and organizational skills. Good computer skills are helpful. Supervisory experience is preferred.
Must have VALID, clean NYS driver's license for this position and be at least 21 years old (for auto insurance purposes) and be able to pass a criminal background check.
